Sorry for the long silence! We left last Saturday morning for Destin, FL, and just returned late last night. Not that much happened in between Mother's Day and our vacation so I'll just jump right in to the vacation! (Well, actually, Tim and I saw STOMP at WAC - it was so good!)
Sam was great on the drive, both down and back. He didn't do much sleeping, but did watch WAAAY too many dvd's! Ha!
Once again he hated the sand. Our daily routine included dressing him for the beach as he cried "no beach! no beach!", and then taking his hand and forcing him to walk through the sand out to our beach chairs. He would then sit in the chair happily playing with his trains and cars until we again forced him to walk through it back to the condo for lunch and a nap. He did suddenly get out of the chair on our second day and walk around on his own - without crying - and even played with the beach ball with Daddy for a few minutes. Then he climbed back in the chair and refused to touch the sand again. On our last day, another little boy was next to us who offered to play with him. Sam did finally get out of the chair then and played in the sand with him. He actually played for a quite a while - of course he just shoveled the sand without actually putting his hands in it, but played nonetheless! He even walked down to the water with us that day and let the waves come up over his feet. That ended very quickly after a slightly larger wave came in and splashed him. We can't quite figure out how our child could hate the beach when Tim and I love it so. We have decided to use the Wilson Park test before we go next year - if he refuses to walk in the sand pit at the park before we go on vacation, then he gets to stay home with Memaw and Mommy & Daddy will go to the beach without him!
So Sam's hatred of the beach did cause us some stress this week, but otherwise he was a pretty good boy. He didn't eat very well and wasn't always as patient in restaurants as we would have liked, but he did so much better in that area than he did last year!
There was one thing about the trip that he LOVED though - the swimming pool! So we headed to the pool in the afternoons so he could actually do something he enjoyed. It does give me hope for a fun summer of swimming though! I'm not sure where we'll go yet, or who we'll go with, but we will be doing some swimming. (side note: any of you who want to get together this summer, please let me know - we're lonely!!)
We also went to the Gulfarium which was not nearly as cool as we expected, but it was still fun. Sam didn't pay too much attention to any of the shows that we went to. He mostly played with his cars and trains and ignored the dolphins until we'd tell him to watch. Then he'd get really excited when they jumped!
Sorry this post is so scattered! Anyway, here are some pictures :)

Well, at least you didn't have to chase him the whole time. Ahh.. a boy, doesn't like the sand?? I've never heard of such, ha! On the other hand, mine would always try to "throw" it and then get it in the eyes... that's always fun too. Hopefully you got a good tan, huh?? Oh, and the gulfarium isn't too good, huh? I remember being disappointed, too. I thought the dolphin tour boats were more fun. Maybe in another year or two you can rent a jet ski! Now, that's fun. :-)
What a fun vacation! Maybe he'll enjoy it better next year! We're taking Emily to the beach for the first time in July, so I hope she likes the sand. I'll have to try out the Wilson Park sand before it to let her get used to it. We go to the FAC pool a lot in the summer, so you are more than welcome to join us!
